Technical and economic aspects for the fine cocoa producers:
- Fine cocoa grows well in many zones of Central America. Sufficient precipitation is required.
- At least 4 months before planting the young fine cocoa trees, shade should be prepared (for temporary shade, typically banana trees are used).
- We recommend irrigation for arid areas.
- The cost of establishing a fine cocoa farm ranges between USD 900 and USD 1,600 per hectacre.
- The income from fine cocoa at peak production (year 7 to 30) is between USD 3,000 and 6,000 per hectacre per year.
